Pool Water Treatment and Operations Course

The Opus Pool Water Treatment and Operations certificate provides training in pool water quality and associated treatment systems for Aquatic facilities while incorporating NZQA unit’s standards 25982, 25981 and 25980. 

US 25982 – Demonstrate knowledge in microbiology and perform calculations relevant to water quality in a public pool. 
US 25981 – Manage water quality in a basic public pool. 
US 25980 – Manage water quality in a complex public pool   

Each of these unit standards are also available to be completed individually and can be used to provide continuing professional development. 

Content 

Module 1 – US 25982
An introduction to pool water quality and treatment systems including microbiology and pool water quality calculations. 

Module 2 – US 25981
Information is delivered on pool water quality and treatment systems in a basic facility.   A basic facility has basic filtration systems, no or low level of automation and the use of chlorine as the only disinfectant. 

Module 3 – US 25980
Information is delivered on pool water quality and treatment systems in a complex facility.   A complex facility has a secondary disinfectant treatment system in addition to chlorine, and a high level of automation and contains pool features. 

Who should attend? 
Any person who is involved with the operations and/or maintenance of public pools, this includes pool advisors and installers. 

To complete any of the unit standards participants should be currently involved in the pool industry. 

Delivery 
The course modules are delivered approximately one month apart and a workbook is also completed and used as evidence of Workplace competency.

The benefits to the industry are as follows:
Opus is able to support the participants through the period of training
Evidence is collected and assessed throughout the training period

The period between training modules allows trainees to get additional support from their workplace

The price for each two-day course is $750 +GST per person.

Unit Standard 20046

Monitor Public Pool Water Quality and Safe Storage of Chemicals

NZQA Unit Standard 20046 will help you to comply with the training requirements of NZS 5826:2010 Pool Water Quality Standard.

This one day course focuses on the water quality requirements of NZS 5826:2010 and is a basic introduction to the operation and maintenance of pool equipment.

Who should attend?

The course has been specifically developed for swimming pool operational staff, school caretakers and managers of small pools. It is also a good introduction to any pool operational staff as well as maintenance personnel, pool advisors, pool installers and pool sales people.

There is no pre-requisite to this course. Participants must have access to a swimming pool to be able to complete the course requirements.

This course is also a good refresher for those people who hold Unit Standard 16252 and Unit Standard 20046.
