We have had a great response to the launch of our new web site, including a huge number of queries on existing courses and interest in future courses. This is an indication that many people have an interest in water related training. Also, we have been pleasantly surprised at the number of clients choosing to enrol directly from the web site, a much easier option for clients and ourselves.

This newsletter introduces several articles along with two new courses we are offering:

Concrete Pipe Installation

This course has been developed by the Concrete Pipe Association of Australia and is supported by Humes and Hynds in New Zealand. Well laid concrete pipes should last for 100 years under most conditions. A quality job is functional, lasts, and won’t need to be dug up and re-done. This course is aimed at experienced pipe layers, less experienced workers, quality checkers, and those associated with the industry such as suppliers, consultants, asset managers, and design engineers.

Advanced Stormwater Design and Management

Following on from our successful introductory Stormwater Management Courses, NZWETA is now offering an Advanced Stormwater Design and Management course developed by presenters Earl Shaver and Susan Ira. Combined Earl and Susan have accumulated considerable knowledge and experience in Stormwater Management and Environmental Planning.

Summer is for Swimming Pools

Summer is also upon us and swimming pool owners are starting to prepare their pools for the warm weather ahead. There is one unit standard 20046: Monitor Public Pool Water Quality and Safe Storage of Chemicals, which is recommended for recreational pool operators like schools, moteliers, camp grounds, hospitals, gyms, and leisure facilities. Unit Standard 20046 has been designed for pool operational staff and is the recommended minimum training to achieve the Water Quality Standard NZS 5826:2000.

If you would like to discuss these or any training opportunities please contact me on 0800 699 382. Finally, please check out the latest articles by NZWETA staff (short introductions are listed below).

Swimming Pools are such marvellous places, expanses of water where kids splash and swim - a real asset to a school and community.  However, these facilities require proper maintenance and skilled operation so the water remains sparkly blue, and up to standard – namely “NZS 5826:2000 Pool Water Quality”.  Keeping the pool in an acceptable state, with good water quality and preventing it from becoming overloaded takes a mixture of training and experience.
