It is a hot February and our training
programmes are underway

Hi

The weather’s been great, the Black Caps are winning and Super 14 is underway. And so is our training programme. Check out our course schedule for 2008

We have a number of new course developments underway which will be profiled in future e-newsletters.

The great news is that we have reached an agreement with IPENZ to market our courses under the IPENZ Professional Development Programme, and for development and support of new programmes for engineers.

ADV-stormwater.jpgIn 2007, we delivered several Advanced Stormwater courses with excellent feedback.

The course presenters, Earl Shaver and Sue Ira were thrilled with the course feedback and are now busy developing a Stormwater Low Impact Design course for delivery later this year. Watch this space.

Courses coming up in March are:

CCTV

CCTV.jpgThis is a a practical course covering CCTV of reticulation assets and the use of the Pipe Inspection Manual.

Typically, students are a mixture of local authority asset management engineers and CCTV camera operators.

The discussion over the two days is valuable, and the training materials and practical exercises go a long way to matching expectations of a CCTV survey.

Water and Environmental Sampling

W+Enviro-Sampling-1.jpgThis course is aimed at laboratory technicians, council and private personnel involved in sampling, permitting and monitoring activities, water and wastewater treatment operational personnel, health protection officials and water transportation operators.

The course introduces water quality, environmental and wastewater compliance monitoring. The course highlights the inadequacies with sampling and the sample collection in the industry, before the samples actually get to the laboratory. Is this a concern in your industry?

We are looking forward to catching up with our regular clients on future courses.

Report back on the Advanced Stormwater Management Course

NZWETA hosted two Advanced Stormwater Management courses in October 2007, in Christchurch and Wellington each.

The trainers of the course are Earl Shaver, an international stormwater expert from Aqua Terra International Ltd., and Sue Ira, ex-manager of the Auckland Regional Council’s stormwater consents and compliance team, now working with Koru Environmental Consultants Ltd.

It is the first time that this course was run in New Zealand, and it attracted a diverse range of professionals from local authority engineers to engineering consultants to environmental scientists.

The course covered the effects of stormwater management and the understanding of key principles of management, and stormwater design for ponds, wetlands, infiltration practices, sand filters, rain gardens, swales, filterstrips, oil and water separators, rain tanks and green roofs.

In addition, costs of stormwater management and efficient stormwater planning was discussed, as well as innovative stormwater practices and landscaping issues. Finally, participants were given a taste of low impact design approaches to stormwater management.

Feedback from these courses has been very positive and enquiries for future courses have already been received! Participants found it thought-provoking and enjoyed listening to the experiences of stormwater professionals from different parts of the country.
