Confined Space Training Course

NZWETA is offering this popular course providing training and education for people who work in, or observe confined space environments. Participants are also given the opportunity to achieve National Qualification Framework (NQF) unit standards by way of practical assessment and verification of competency.

This course has been designed for new participants in the industry, or simply as a refresher, which we recommend should be completed every two years.

Content
  • Confined spaces and their permit notification and implementation requirements;
  • Identification and control measures to eliminate, isolate and minimise the risk of hazards;
  • Monitoring and confined space testing requirements;
  • Responsibilities and duties of people entering confined spaces or conducting observation duties for confined spaces;
  • Identification of the location, and work procedure to be carried out;
  • Examination of an entry plan for its completeness; and
  • Entrance, completion of work and withdrawal from a confined space.
All successfully assessed course participants gain NQF unit standards 18426: Demonstrate knowledge of hazards associated with confined space, and 19207: Enter, work in, and exit a confined space in the water industry.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at people who are required to enter confined spaces or observe confined space entry. It is also worthwhile for those that work on water, wastewater, or stormwater reticulation systems, which collectively make up water reticulation services.

Delivery

We are offering a unique delivery for this course.
  • Those who require Confined Space training and related unit standards can achieve this over a comprehensive - one-day course which offers two NQF unit standards.
  • Those already with the above mentioned confined space unit standards can attend a half-day refresher course based on monitoring and confined space testing requirements, planning an entry, then entrance, completion of work and withdrawal from a confined space. (refresher course only on demand)
The trainer provides an extensive range of safety equipment however, due to the practical exercise, participants must bring along their own personal protective equipment such as hard hat, overalls and boots.
