Backflow Survey course New Zealand Water and Environment Training Academy (NZWETA) is now offering a Backflow Survey Course following the Backflow testers course.
Legislation, regulations, and by-laws have been developed to protect both the public within and outside a property from plumbing cross-connections between a potable and non-potable water supply. To identify the protection levels required on commercial and industrial facilities a backflow survey is often required.
This backflow survey course will address the needs of the surveyor, and it will identify many of the problems that the surveyor may find during their investigation.
The course is completed in two days and covers aspects of preparation for surveying, appropriate device selection, surveying of residential, commercial, industrial, rural and irrigation sites, as well as fire protection systems. It will also cover insurance, disclaimers and report writing. The production of a report is to be completed for evidence of competence.
This Course is designed to meet achievement levels for Unit Standards which are currently under development and will be awarded retrospectively on successful completion of the course.
Content The course will cover:
- Understanding of backflow potential hazard by site
- Pre-inspection processes
- Inspection procedures
- Potential hazard and hazard level identification
- Potential hazard containment zone individual identification
- Potential solutions or improvements for protection levels
- Report production
- Insurances and disclaimers
Note: There is a prerequisite for trainees attending this course to have achieved US23848 "Describe suitability, installation, and testing of water supply backflow prevention devices, and fault identification" (first two days of the Backflow Tester's course - module 1 & 2), or equivalent training, and/or industry experience.
